Breaking the silence
Resource sites play a central role in Xenocell's clan vs. clan gameplay. Read on to see what's fueling clan battles, and check out two new screenshots made at a yet unclaimed resource site.
Here are two ingame screenshots of a resource site. I hope you like the touch of the atmosphere as much as we do! Read on for more details about resource sites and clan vs. clan battles.First of all - forgive us for the long silence. It does not mean that the game is not getting enough of our attention - the very opposite. We have been so excited and have progressed so well so far, that we actually have a hard time taking a break from design / coding / modeling. It really is so exciting.
On one side, we've been working on bringing the visuals up to speed with the recent players of the genre, and creating beautiful and enigmatic atmospheres that represent the various parts of the planet Ibelis.
In Xenocell, clans fight for resources to be able to refine these into materials needed for building different structures and weapons.
The planet Ibelis has had it's fair share of bringing up sentient life. One such species created long unused warp gates to the richest resource locations of the planet. By entering a warp gate, you are teleported to the farthest reaches of the planet, close to where the resource can be found.
Resources come in different flavors... some are sought for underground, some are found on peaks. They have one thing in common though - they must be secured by the clan in order to enjoy their benefits. Once they are secured, the clan continously and automatically gains the harvested resource ready to be refined.
Securing a resource can be done through many ways - buy stationary turrets, hire mercenaries to patrol the location, or go in with your team mates and defend it yourself. Whenever you own a resource, you can instantly teleport to it from anywhere, so it's easy to defend when you get the dreaded alert: your property is under attack.
Clans attack resource sites to obtain ownership of a site, and to be able to harvest it. Some resources are very rare, some are pretty common. When hostile clan members attack a site that belongs to you, they have 5 minutes to join the site, after which the warp gate shuts down - so only members of the defending clan can teleport to the site. The attacking team has a time limit to complete a set of goals. These goals vary and depend on the site where the resource is located. Some are as simple as taking out generators and oil pistons, but others can be more complicated, and might require special skills.
These resource sites work as instances - maybe you have already met the term in other MMOs. They are small worlds that are generated only for the securing or the attacking and defending clan members.
So these would be a few of the features of clan vs. clan gameplay in Xenocell.
Take care, and stay tuned for my next post in a few days!
